Voicing our concerns regarding the third reading of the UK Assisted Dying Bill
Dear Community Members,
We wrote to you all in November 2024 in the UK, requesting you to write to your local MPs regarding the Assisted Dying Bill. This Bill proposes that those who are terminally ill and have 6 months left to live be granted the right to end their lives by self-administering medication.Â
As Muslims, we reject and are opposed to this. We are very concerned about the impact this will have on the elderly & terminally ill and that they may take steps to end their lives to reduce the burden on society & their loved ones.Â
The Council of European Jamaats and Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Shia Europe have written a letter which outlines our position on the Assisted Dying bill.
CALL FOR ACTION: WRITE TO YOUR MP
The Bill is going for a third reading on 25th April. We request all community members to write to their local MPs well before this time, using the template letter below. You can find your MP and their contact details at https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMPÂ
