Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Course

The Council of European Jamaats proudly launched their inaugural Youth Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) course on the weekend of 6th – 7th July 2019. Twelve participants underwent the training which was delivered by Ammar Farishta and Mariam Hassam, both of whom are MHFA Instructor Members.

This program is one of the manifesto pledges of Dr Akber Mohamedali, president of CoEJ, centred around the objective of improving the mental health of the community at large, especially the youth.

This training is evidence based and is designed to increase participants’ confidence, knowledge and skills to step into situations where they notice signs of poor mental health, especially amongst the youth of our community.

A further program will be held in Birmingham during September 2019.

Feedback from participants was largely positive, a summary of which is below:

“An excellent course very informative and educational. Definitely eye- opening would highly recommend this course to everyone”

“Fantastic delivery from two articulate, knowledgeable and very open- minded instructors. Really promoted positive, pen discussion in an environment that always felt safe and secure.”
