On Thursday 8th June, polling stations will open, and millions of voters across the country will be having their say on who they want representing them in Parliament.
The Council of European Jamaats, whilst being non-partisan, encourages all our members in the UK who are eligible to vote, to make sure they make their voice heard and vote in the general election.
This is the time to have your say and make a difference. It’s your vote – don’t lose it!
Why vote?
Your vote matters.
- We live in a democracy. We have the right to choose whichever direction our country goes in, in a fair election process. Many other countries do not have this right.
- It’s a necessity. As Muslims living in Britain, we have a civil obligation to engage in the political process. Political engagement through voting is not a luxury, by any stretch of the imagination – it is a necessity.
- The more we vote, the more likely the outcome will benefit us.Politicians have been traveling the country to try and win your vote. The greater the Muslim and BME turnout, the more politicians take notice of us, and the more likely they are to engage with us and build policies that appeal to us and meet our needs.
- It gives you the power to choose how things are run.It’s easy – it only takes a few minutes at the most, polling stations are located close to home and are open from 7am – 10pm.
What am I voting for?
Thursday 8th June is the UK Parliamentary General Election. The UK is divided into 650 constituencies, each with one Member of Parliament (MP). You vote for one MP to sit in the UK Parliament in Westminster and represent your constituency.
How do I vote?
If you’re a registered voter, visit your local polling station between 7am and 10pm on Thursday 8th June.
