What is Palliative Care?
Palliative Care is the approach taken to treat patients when a disease is not curable and life-limiting. It’s important to mention here that palliative care in not a means to hasten death.
Importantly, in palliative care we affirm that dying is a natural process & aims to provide the best support to patients in achieving a good quality of life in the months, weeks & days leading up to their death. Palliative care aims to treat patients holistically, meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
What is the role of a Support Champion?
Their role will be to identify the support that is available within the Jamaat & local community & to signpost you to these resources. This may be cancer support networks such as Macmillan teams, or cancer support groups within the local community or Jamaat, or individuals who can visit those who are terminally unwell to provide emotional support to the patient & family.
Their role is supportive & to help you understand the decisions that your doctors have made regarding your care.
How can you get help?
The support champions look forward to engaging with you all. Each Jamaat has support champions that you can reach out to with your questions or if you need any advice,
